VBS - Day Four

March of the Locusts!  The craft person was back!  Yay!  But since we started this project yesterday by painting the clothespins green, I helped finish them today.  They were a little challenging, with eyes and antennas falling off in every direction, but as you can see, we made quite a swarm of them!

Today's story was of the temptation of Jesus, and the verse was Psalm 119:11 - "I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you." (NIV)  If you know the story, Jesus was led into the desert for 40 days.  During that time, he had nothing to eat or to drink.  After that, the devil came to tempt him.  First, he said that Jesus should change the stones into bread, since he was hungry.  Then, he showed him all the kingdoms of the world and said he would give them all to Jesus if he would worship him instead of God.  The final temptation was to have Jesus stand on the highest point of the temple, where he said "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here."  (Luke 4:9 NIV)  Here, the devil even used scripture, quoting verses about God's angels protecting him.  But Jesus was able to resist all of these temptations, quoting scripture for each one.

The writer of Ephesians gives us a picture of the armor we need to wear as Christians.  The only offensive piece of the armor is the sword of the spirit, which is the Word of God. (Ephesians 6:17).  This was the only weapon Jesus needed against his adversary, and it is the only one we need.  But it won't work unless we know it.  Satan doesn't like to give us time to look things up in the concordance or "phone a friend."  We have to know what God says in his word.  We have to know when it is twisted, or taken out of context, or used in the wrong manner.  And we have to fight the lies that our culture throws at us with the truth that is in God's word.

So, one more day of VBS!  And then we'll have the program on Sunday.  I pray that the children and families are blessed this week.

Check out the rest of the week!
